Re: How to Handle Politics in a Modern Day World?
I get the feeling this thread is getting close to the sensitive subjects rule. Micamo, I'm not putting words in your mouth, but what you said could be read as all Trump voters are no better than Neo-Nazis or the KKK, but I know of not a few Jews who voted Trump, are you going to say they're Neo-Naz...

Re: How to Handle Politics in a Modern Day World?
I think the solution probably has to come through working on your issues. If you look around yourself, see probably the closest humanity has come to utopia - the most prosperous, liberal, tolerant, peaceful and safe that the US has ever been, and nearly that the world has ever been anywhere - and f...

Re: How to Handle Politics in a Modern Day World?
Best solution is probably to base things off of our world, but diverge at a critical point: I'm most familiar with US political history so I'll use that as an example. You could base things off of the 20th century, but then say that after WWII the New Deal was never dismantled, the war in vietnam ne...

Revised the lang from yesterday a bit, and sketched out ideas for a distant cousin lang of sorts. Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Has anyone ever re-done a conlang of theirs significantly? Revamped it into the "2.0" version? What kind of changes did you make? Were they significant enough that you had essentially created a new conlang or just an improved version of the same one? Many times: Often, I throw out literal...

Re: Need some help with my amphibious reptilian
So, I'm building this world where most of the lifeforms, for one reason or another, are reptiles, or at least reptilian. Now, I know there have been reptile dominant periods in Earth's history, so it isn't impossible for the modern ecosystem of another planet to be predominantly reptiles as well. I...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
Did some serious thinking about my draft of The Traitor's Blade and got some new ideas I'm really excited about, though they don't solve all of my problems. Though they _do_ invalidate a lot of what I've written in the conworld thread... *sigh*

The (Very Incomplete) Map https://i.imgur.com/7P5xaan.png This map is the entire planet, roughly the same size as earth. The scale bar at the bottom has been rendered illegible by me scaling it down but its full length is 3000 miles: As you can see, there's one "main continent" and a bunc...

It does, actually. If you try to tunnel under the boundary, you'll just smack into it in your tunnel instead.alynnidalar wrote: ↑27 Nov 2019 20:26 Mention of lyocite veins getting larger as they get nearer to Despair made me think: what happens if you try to dig under Despair? Does it extend down into the earth as well?

Re: The Traitor's Blade
Lyocite Lyocite is a dark purple mineral, about the color of the skin of a plum. It flakes easily and can be crushed into powder with your bare hands. Lyocite is found underground in deposits only on the northern continent, and the veins become larger and more common as you get closer to the Despai...

Re: The Traitor's Blade
I haven't read the post yet, but if you do re-start the novel you might want to rename it. Seeing as 'The Traitor's Blade' is already a fairly-well-known* fantasy novel... [to be fair, given the finite number of combinations of "[portentous word 1]'s [portentous word 2]" (or "[pw2] o...

The Traitor's Blade
This is some worldbuilding stuff I made for a now-mostly-defunct fantasy novel attempt, a grimdark fantasy with a working title "The Traitor's Blade." I scrapped the novel because I couldn't figure out how to make the plot quite work, but the worldbuilding is better than most of what I com...

A new langauge called Súošël . I was bored so instead of just making up a list of names I like, thought that's sure to be all that actually appears in the book assuming I ever actually finish writing it, I decided to write a short sample as well. Re: RE: Making a Computer that runs on Magic
In principle, if you can use it to build a NAND gate, you can make a whole computer out of it. You can make simple computers out of dominoes, marbles, even by just having people hold up flags of different colors. The main factors for viability are size, speed, and cost. It's difficult to name any ma...

A simple naming language project for a fantasy novel I'm currently drafting. It's deliberately meant to evoke the feel of Latin and Greek, but be prettier and have a few twists. It'll probably end up being named Vorsari or something similar. Keinos Suriores Jistanien Bellaria Tiama Saeworos Viraniar...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
You should do a conlang where the word for a fraction is just its index in a breadth-first traversal of the Stern-Brocot tree.
