Re: Otvei (Scratchpad)

Colors I'm back for more 'langing, and I brought some color terms with me! Otvei distinguishes 12 basic taagu (colors): red, orange, yellow, green, cyan/turquoise/azure, blue, purple, magenta/pink, brown, black, gray, and white. Basically, it's just English's basic color terms + cyan. Here's a colo...

And why?
New Oxford American Dictionary says "tremendousness."

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I figured out how to do causatives in Otvei. They use the word un, meaning simply "cause, make," followed by the subordinating particle ek, followed by the action that was caused to happen. Ex: Ro unai ek sep amzeai. fire.NOM cause-3SG SUBORD ice.NOM melt-3SG The fire melts the ice. (Liter...

Re: What language could this be?

Maybe the "im"s are just pauses in speach, like "um." That would make the first two numbers "ta" and "tu."

Re: Con-Script Development Centre

I actually think the original variable height one looks pretty good, but I think these could easily coexist as just different styles of the same script. What would make it impossible to make a font? Each glyph represents a syllable, including onset and coda consonants. They all have to fit together...

Re: Con-Script Development Centre

I spent this afternoon trying to update my Otvei script. Here is what the old version looks like: https://i.imgur.com/bM18B77.png And here's the new version: https://i.imgur.com/HSdBFUg.png It now has glyphs of equal height. The dots are circular, and the spaces are narrower. The curved strokes rese...

Re: Euterpe: A world of sign language

not arbitrary? so, if I hold up two fingers, you can tell me what that means? :) Well, I guess cultural context plays a role in understanding a sign. Sign language is only very slightly less arbitrary than sound. Note that even when onomatopoeias are possible, they're still not very useful, because...

Just popping in to say that I’m enjoying this. [:)] Good to hear! Universe Sandbox 2 . I highly recommend it. Yeah, I already have it, and it's pretty cool, though I've found it difficult to use with my own values for things. Did you just painstakingly go edit all the things in the program? Yes, bu...

Re: Euterpe: A world of sign language

I've been working on plate tectonics today. I'm pretty happy with how they look. The one big difference between Euterpe's and Earth's plate tectonics systems is that Euterpe has many more plates. Here is a map of the plate tectonics in equirectangular projection. The arrows represent movement. You m...

Re: Euterpe: A world of sign language

I have a couple of thoughts as feedback. First, communication will always tend toward the comparatively easiest way. I speak with my mouth because it's much easier to do that than drop or put down whatever I am doing in order to sign. I see that your people can't easily vocalize, so that is a start...

I had a similar idea. One interesting aspect is that there might be a special 'spoken language' for blind people [:)] That's a good idea!
