Miwonša: Judah found a wife for his oldest son, Er. Her name was Tamar. But the Lord saw that Er, Judah's firstborn son, was very bad. So the Lord caused him to die. Then Judah said to Onan, ‘You should marry your dead brother's wife and have sex with her. You are her dead husband's brother. You mu...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Hello people, I am currently revamping my conlang Miwonša. I am thinking about how I could make nouns and adjectives negative... Until now, I have just prefixed "žai-" (not) to the stem: yakni = fair, just žaiyakni = unfair yaknjani = fairness, justice žaiyaknjaza = unfairness, injustice s...

How can I transcribe a sign language
Okay, here is the deal: I have never created a sign language before. I do not speak a sign language. I do not intend to learn one because than my conlang would not be a conlang anymore, but a relic of an existing sign language. Instead of having phonemes, my conlang's words will be composed of the f...

Re: Coloquialism 1: Synonyms for "To get drunk"
Short explanation: The reason I created this thread is that I find it very hard to learn colloquialisms when studying foreign languages. Of course, you can look up every word in a dictionary, but you never know if an expression is still used or already dated, as many dictionaries contain slang from ...

How many conlangs have phonemic nasal vowels?!
Miwonša has ten vowel monophtongs: /a e i o u - ã ẽ ĩ õ ũ/. Basically the traditional 5 vowel system, but one set of oral vowels and one set of nasal vowels. When comparing Miwonša to other conlangs, it seems to me that nasal vowels are quite rare in other conlangs. Why is that? Are you all afraid o...
