Re: The relationship between human souls and decomposition
This is a really cool idea. What do the priests do exactly? Some process that expedites decomposition? Or ritually cleanse the body while is decays?
Why doesn't everyone just get these? Too expensive?Sharad9 wrote:Warriors are given markings by priests that are akin to magic tatoos.

Re: Ni: A Conworld
It's been a while since I've done anything with this world, but I recently sketched out the distribution of the main language families of Ni, on the order of Indo-European or Afro-Asiatic, at about the beginning of History (as opposed to pre-history). Probably not all of these areas are actually com...

Re: Ni: A Conworld
Well, I've been messing around in Blender and come up with a rough sketch of what the Niotians look like. This doesn't include the membrane/skin between the wing "fingers", because that turns out to be rather difficult, but you get the idea. It's far from done, but I figure a picture is wo...

Re: Ni: A Conworld
The Niotian City As on Earth, the prototypical Ni city has a wall to mark its boundaries. Because Niotians fly, this wall cannot defend against invading armies no matter how tall it is, so the city wall is seldom higher than a story. Entrances to the city are a small number of portals in the wall, ...

Re: Information Dump about Ni
Thanks for the encouragement! This may have been my last chance to think about Ni for the next month or so, but I hope to really dig into some of the prehistory and ancient history (and a few naming languages) in June. Gosh, I hope it won't be quite that bad! I can't think of anything short of bein...

Re: Information Dump about Ni
I love your ideas! The combination of 'hard' worldbuilding and a sort of magic works surprisingly well. This is great to hear. Well... read. A question: can outflyers travel through time, as well? Can they get sick, old, and die? They can't time travel per se, and may even take longer to get places...

Re: Information Dump about Ni
And I hope you'll keep us fed with tidbits of many different eras of that history! I'm thinking of (eventually...) coming up with stories set around times throughout history when the outsiders have affected the world in major ways. This way, I'll be able to showcase various eras of history from var...

Re: Information Dump about Ni
I'm so glad you're interested! Those are all good questions, which I haven't quite figured out the answer to. I'll answer as best I can here. What sort of technical level are these people at? Clearly the outflyers have impacted how things developed, so I wouldn't imagine they'd be directly analogous...

Ni: A Conworld
Edit: This is going to be a thread for all things Ni, and as I come up with information about the biology, technology, culture, etc. of Ni, I will post it here. I am currently teaching myself to draw, so stay tuned for some images of some Niotian folk and fauna. I've worked out some background info...

Oh, so they're six-limbed a la Vishnu, except that the one pair of arms has become wings. Interesting. Do you know the evolutionary history of that?

Re: Architecture, fashion, and technology for non-humanoids
spears/daggers ties to their feet/ankles - so fishing is a time to practice for warfare (and they provide metaphors for each other) I really like this, thanks. pterosaurs took being hollow-boned to an extreme, which is why they could get the size of small airplanes. How extreme? Were they delicate?

Re: Architecture, fashion, and technology for non-humanoids
Is the atmosphere or gravity of your planet different from the Earth’s? I don’t think a tiger-sized animal could fly over contemporary Earth. Hmm, I had imagined it about the same. How big do you think a flyer could get? What about pterosaurs? I don’t think your species would wear clothes. Huh. Ver...

Re: Architecture, fashion, and technology for non-humanoids
Ideas I've had so far are as follows: "Rooms" could be on several levels with half-stories to move between. Stronghold would be either underground or similar in construction to beehives (heavily armored on all sides, exits are straight down for fast exit but slow, awkward entry). Pants wou...

Architecture, fashion, and technology for non-humanoids
I'm working on a conworld with non-humanoid sapients and am stuck on a few things (details below). If anyone can help me generate some ideas, I would really appreciate it. And feedback on what I already have would be very nice too. Also, if anyone else has a non-human sapient and wants a place to bo...

Re: Geopgraphy questions
Here's the new continent I mentioned, along with a change to the landmasses on the right, which I think makes more sense with respect to tectonic plates. Thoughts on this version? Should I go ahead and figure out plates now?
