Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
I would say it can, but not in the way you showed it in your example. Postvocalic consonants make more sense IINM. Starting out from English, which slightly lengthens vowels before voiced consonants, you could have the following. /ata a:ta asa a:sa/ > /ata a:da asa a:za/ > /ata ada asa aza/ Another...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Can a voicing distinction arise in consonants because of vowel length?
/ta ta: sa sa:/ > /ta da sa za/, etc.
/ta ta: sa sa:/ > /ta da sa za/, etc.

So there's this Japanese song I'm obsessed with now called 夜行性ハイズ (Yakousei Haizu). The translation I've found is "Nocturnal Kids". But how do you get "kids" from ハイズ? Does ハイズ actually mean anything in Japanese? My theory is that it would be from Chinese 孩子 (háizi /xaɪ̯³⁵ d͡z̥z...

Re: Zhér·dûn
Genitive This post will feature three rather short grammatical features. The first one is the genitive case which was already featured in previous posts, but I thought it would be good to give a quick overview separately. The genitive in Zhér·dûn is marked by the preposition a4 , which is a cognate...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
I agree. In some dialects this process is still productive and also active for post-alveolars (which are phonetically rounded), e.g. there is [fʏʃʷ]~ [fɪʃʷ] 'fish'. I'm so glad to read this because I often hear my German professor use [ʏ] where I'd expect [ɪ] and always thought it was a bit strange...

Re: Zhér·dûn
I enjoyed the post on seperable verbs. Maybe you could say that the separated form is kind of a present tense antipassive? It only occurs in the absence of an overt object in the present tense. Two related questions: Can adverbs come in between the parts of a separable verb? What is the passive for...
