Re: Help Needed for Conlang Song Project
Interested, but it would be helpful if you also show the actual song itself. Translations can be easier in a song imo, especially because of melody and rhythm. Also, do you accept conscripts for this conlang translation? I'll try and get an audio file up here, do you have any idea how? And I would ...

Help Needed for Conlang Song Project
Inspired by a song I heard recently that uses the same verse in different languages, I want to create a song about and for conlangs and conlangers (conlinguists?) using the same verse translated into different conlangs. So, if you have a conlang and you want to help out, or try a translation exercis...

The Deornan Calendar
This is an idea that I've had floating around for a while now. Hopefully I'll be able to flesh out the world a little more (a lot more--this is the only thing I've made for Deorn/maybe Deorna), but I thought I'd share it with you all. The Deornan calendar consists of 13 months, each with 4 7-day wee...

Re: Random Conworld idea thread
Midh believe (or rather, once did) that something's shadow is the anchor that ties it to reality. If you lose your connection with your shadow, you can be whisked away to all sorts of horrible places by evil spirits. So, to make sure this didn't happen, they took their shadows and wove them into bl...

Re: Does anybody else get bored of conworlds easily?
I create lots of ideas for conworlds, and try to put them together into something cohesive when all I have for one is, say, a calendar system, but it rarely works. I've gotta do something with that calendar, though...

Re: Card Decks And Symbolism In Nival
Phew, that was a lot, but I believe that’s everything I can say about the Nivalan card deck! I’d love to post more about this in the future, perhaps going into more detail with the natures of the four principles, or developing some more archetypes. I hope you all enjoyed! Please do post more! I for...

A little something from Haoka
I've recently revisited Haoka, my language-in-progress, and yesterday I filled in some words in my notebook I'd been meaning to create. One of those was "please," as in "Could you please help me open this?" My trouble with this word had been that I was just trying to put some sou...

Card Decks And Symbolism In Nival
I’m using the name of the province where this is most relevant as a placeholder for the actual country, which I haven’t named yet. Nival (nee-val) is the Province of Fire, and the card deck used nationally originated there, albeit before it was ever called Nival. The Nivalan card deck resembles the...

Re: Songs into your conlang
Ooh, I've always wanted to do this! I even have a few original song ideas for my conlang, Haoka. Now if I had the vocabulary to actually write them... [xD] I feel like the one problem I'd have with putting songs into my conlang is I'd want them to match rhythmically as well, and have some rhyme to t...

Re: On the Concept of Sani
Can it not be said that a hoarder's hoard is sani because all that random stuff comes along in accord with the underlying disorder? Likewise the homicidal maniac, the rapist & the paedophile? Can it be argued that their actions (murder, rape & child sexual abuse) are sani because they in ac...

Re: On the Concept of Sani
this is quite interesting. (and welcome to the forum) Thank you :) hm, so a packrat's house may still be sani; but an ecclectic collector's house would not be sani? I would actually say the opposite. The eclectic collector has a wide variety of different and strange items, but if they still feel li...

Re: On the Concept of Sani
I see. Maybe I was thinking more along the lines of "task at hand within a cyclical arrangement" rather than "the big picture of the cycle as a whole". In otherwords, "harvest", the task at hand, would not be sani because it's simply part of a much longer action that i...

Re: On the Concept of Sani
Interesting. It sounds like the Hao make a distinction between momentary actions, those that can be said to be sani , and cyclical or continuous actions that can not truly be sani . (Until, perhaps, at the End of All Things?) Not exactly, I feel like continuous action can be sani in the greater sen...

On the Concept of Sani
The word sani in Haoka roughly translates to "complete" or "whole." It can also be used a a verb: "to complete something" or "to make whole." However, the meaning of sani is much more complex, and does not line up perfectly with the English concept of "co...

Re: Songwriting?
Yes, making a translation that encompasses the stresses/meter and the meaning is very difficult! I've written several songs in Korean, and translated a few more, and found that writing a song in another language is less about "translation" and more about conveying basic themes in each line...

Do you ever write songs in your conlangs? If so, what kind of songs do you write and how do you go about it? I'm curious, as this is something I'm considering
