Re: Xiwook

The morpheme -ko, I termed Volitional, derives from a word that means (more or less) 'to want'. (I have to think how it affects person paradigms. Are the volitional paradigms more adjective-like?) When it combines with Realis form, it expresses votionality. syko 'willingly does'. When it combines w...

Re: Arayaz's thread so that she doesn't flood the forum

I've decided not to include evidentials in this language after all. I think the verbal system is already enough, and honestly, I'm a bit worried about working out their interactions with the moods. I might re-evolve them later, though.

How do you say "river"? Is it just suhakkak or do you only use that when you say you're going somewhere? "Let's see. If I wanted to say 'that is a river,' I could say 26) taa suhak . I would only say suhakkak if something was ... at a river, or ..." He furrows his brow. "Or...

That's a wonderful insult ─ it looks like it's straight out of Calvin and Hobbes! It does seem too long to be a regular-use slur, though.

Re: Non-spheroid conworlds (now talking about horizons)

My personal favorite weird world shape is an infinite flat plane. Because of the fact that gravity bends light, it would appear as though you were inside an immensely large sphere, and you'd be able to see parts of the word you'd never be able to reach. (Well, I'm not sure if you actually could, sin...

Hmmm. So kuŋ means "language," but it also means "we (exclusive) sense them"? And r̼ɔt means "tree," but it also means "some (singular ???) are the two of us"? And how do you have number inflections on an anaphoric item meaning "all"?

No problem! If I had a lot of time I might try to translate the relevant section into English, since I have some limited Portuguese knowledge, but I doubt I have the time to do it.

Has anyone ever made a lesson/guide for Xavante? That'd be useful for getting into the mindset of a realistic OSV conlang. I did a quick look for resources, and all I found was this set of lessons , which is in Portuguese. On an unrelated note: while trying to navigate to this post, I got a few err...
