Re: Lexember 2023
I might have to yoink your customary-agentive suffix destinction. Esperanto does something similar with -anto and -isto I believe Yeah, its primary use has more of a connotation of "should" than -isto does and I use it a lot. It more or less provides a non-episodic interpretation and indi...

Re: Extreme Conlang Ideas
Commonthroat inflects nouns for deixis, almost completely lacks pronouns of any kind, vowels have phonemic length, tone AND volume, and it uses dreaming dog noises as phonemes. I'd say that's pretty extreme.

Re: (C&C) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Could a reasonably advanced civilization reasonably construct stations in interstellar space? What advancements that modern-day Earth doesn't have would be necessary to create one? There are a couple issues I can see with interstellar stations. Where do the resources come from? Interstellar space i...

do the colonies belong to anyone/anygroup in particular? maybe the longtrain is considered neutral territory? Of course then the question becomes if they can so easily live in microgravity where they can use all four paws and tail for grasping then why live planetside? My running explanation for th...

Re: (C&C) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
It may be worth pointing out that every trip to meet the orbital train would be as expensive as sending a rocket to space, because that's essentially what you'd be doing (the problem isn't sendin thins to 'space', the place, but to orbital velocity, which is even higher at sea level than in space)....

do the colonies belong to anyone/anygroup in particular? maybe the longtrain is considered neutral territory? Colonies at Focus are analogous to smallish islands on Earth. At least that's the economic analogy I'm going with. They range in autonomy from completely independent states to being 100% un...

yeeeeeah I love exolangs! I posted a topic about non human phonologies that you might be interested in. Just to be clear, I'm assuming the symbols you've chosen aren't meant to be read phonetically, correct? They're just placeholders for the pheromones used as phonemes? (I really wish linguists coul...

I'm no economist, so I have no idea if this would make sense, even for a Kardashev II civilization, particularly since I've already established that normal space colonies exist to fill this need. But the idea just sounds too cool to ignore.[/qauote]You could justify it if your society has rampant c...

How stupid is this idea? I call it the sea-level orbiter. It's a long train in a vacuum tube using maglev tracks that circles the equator. It goes fast enough that centrifugal force equals the planet's gravity and allows the occupants to float. It's used both as a permanent living space and as a mea...

Working on a font for Commonthroat with Inkscape and FontForge. Making fonts is hard. I'm also learning about how OpenType and Unicode determine text direction. Hint: it's not as easy as saying "this font should be right-to-left".
