Re: Commonpaw: written counterpart to Commonthroat
The character next to "bright" looks exactly like my character in Daas for "fire". What a coincidence! Great minds think alike. Daas seems to be a traditional oral language with a logographic writing system, correct? Commonpaw is a purely written language. It uses size, position...

Re: Analysis Swap?
I want to, but I don't know if Daas actually has enough grammar and stuff done in it. (I might end up making stuff up as I go, which seems to be the only way Daas actually progresses) That's how all my languages start out, and honestly only Commonthroat has gotten beyond that phase. Once a foundati...

Re: Analysis swap: Commonthroat
"Thank you. So ─" I pause, furrowing my brow in thought "─ if I wanted to say 'that rock is green,' could I say sKGqp slnrp?" "You've almost got it. Sticking that grunt at the end makes the word sound more like a noun, so you wouldn't use it on <slnr>. It would be <sKGqp sl...

"Hmmm," I say. "Could I say slnrGH to say 'that is green?' If so, could I say rnL slnrGH to mean 'that is not green?'" He pauses, assuming a canine sitting stance. He reaches up with a rear leg as a dog would to scratch its ear. He cocks his head to the side and tugs gently at h...

How do you say:
1. The man sees the tree.
2. The tree is seen by the man.
3. The tree is seen.

3. The tree is seen.

I feel like things will end badly for me either way, but I'll assume the stranger is telling the truth and avoid touching the crystal again.

How was your trip? <HMLHG!> He coils his tail around his ears, like a sire trying to shield his pup from foul language. "You didn't learn that word from me," he jokes. "It's not the router itself, mind. I've hopped between colonies before. You don't feel a thing going from one zero-G...

Analysis swap: Commonthroat
This is my attempt at Trailsend's Analysis swap game. Just for fun, I'll borrow Kesshin's "choose your own adventure" style of lore from this thread to give some context to the game. Here is the thread for Commonthroat, and here is the thread for the Lonely Galaxy setting. You may want to ...

Re: Analysis Swap
I'd certainly like to try. I had a similar idea where people would try to produce meaningful utterances in other people's conlangs in order to help you understand where you need to shore up grammatical explanations etc, but this seems both more doable and more fun.

Re: The Lonely Galaxy Megathread (comments encouraged)
I imagine whether healers can enter childermoot is culture dependent based on emphasis on their role as previous shamans and de-emphasis of that role. Think of it like IRL hospitals. Many are religiously affiliated, and (at least in the past) were staffed by nuns. There are also nurses or doctors w...

Parrots are awesome too. I have the sapient species known as the parrotpeople on the planet Psittacotia in the Lehola Galaxy ("parrotperson" and "Psittacotia" both being LIE exonyms, obviously). I also have the detrom, who are sapient otters. I'm also a fan of parrots. I don't h...
