First Contact, Part I
The golden rays of the westering sun soak into my fur, and I feel the warm sand under my palms erode as gentle waves lap at my paws. "How long have I been standing here?" I wonder. A whisper responds, "It doesn't matter. You're here now" "Where is this place again?" I t...
Re: Hvednakpa
I would attempt to include, like, a picture of how this time thing would word. Inspired by a picture from the Nativlang video, but I don't know how to add pictures from my computer into posts. The image tag-thing seems to want a url, or other link, for the image. You'll need to use a 3rd party imag...

New numbers station
Well, at least it was new to me. An American male voice was reciting random letters in the phonetic alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie, etc, yeah it's confusing being a ham and a language nerd at the same time. Sometimes it's even called the International Phonetic Alphabet .) Anyway, I didn't catch the...

More on the Knights of the Sun
https://i.imgur.com/NMISoyy.png Here's a symbol for the Knights of the Sun. It plays on the Claravian Star and Gear. The spikes represent both sun rays and a spiked tail weapon, which as stated in the Commonthroat thread, has similar symbolic value to yinrih as swords do for humans. Hearthside's mi...

Encoding Olfaction
I posted a similar treatment over on the Commonthroat thread , but I've found at least one popular article treating the subject of abstract olfactory terms that sheds a bit more light on the subject. Basically, conventional linguistic wisdom says that human language is incapable of encoding odors in...

Tailslengths and heartbeats
The standard unit of length at Focus is the Tailslength or just tail which, while long since redefined in terms of physical constants, is meant to approximate the length of an adult yinrih's tail. The standard unit of time in scientific circles doesn't mesh neatly into the Yih calendar as the SI sec...

Re: Calendars (for Earth and for conworlds)
Very well thought-out. I don't have much laid out for Focus, other than a rudimentary calendar for Yih that reckons years from the Kindling of the Fire of Understanding (the emergence of sapience). Yih years are about 1.4 Earth years long, and there are exactly 528 Yih days per Yih year, making a Yi...

Re: Hvednakpa
This is a much more clever way to go about it that I did with Commonthroat, where I just use time adverbs for tense and serial verbs like "start", "stop" etc for aspect.
How would you talk about future events? Perhaps a verb meaning to want or to intend.

Re: Analysis swap: Commonthroat
At first he hobbles along a ways behind you, but he slowly adjusts to his MacGyvered paw coverings and begins trotting along next to you as before. You make a mental note to buy a jar of Musher's Secret when you two get back home. Perhaps he'll tolerate paw wax more than those socks and mittens. Eve...

Ludd Laws
Despite bearing a Terran name, Ludd Laws are laws put in place on Hearthside, the Allied Worlds, and other yinrih governments to prevent the export of monkey fox technology to Earth. They are so named because they were the brainchild of Dr. Staples and other academics at Erickson College who were th...

Re: Hipster Wi-Fi (AKA Amateur Radio)
I just got some old TNCs (terminal node controllers) from my neighbor. They're like modems but they connect to a radio instead of a phone line. I had to google the manual and found out they were released in the mid 80s. The list of compatible computers includes the Commodore VIC 20 and IBM PCJr. Thi...

Lucy is the human-pronounceable name of the high hearthkeeper in office at the time of the Dewfall 's arrival on Earth. She is the successor to the High Hearthkeeper who tried to once again put a stop to interstellar mission work that caused Pascal to lapse out of scandal and Iris to go in with the ...

Odor colors
So, I've made a big deal about how the yinrih rely on non visual sensory information much more than humans. I've so far avoided elaborating on this concept in Commonthroat. In my never ending quest to do literally anything besides what I should be doing (yay ADHD!) I went searching for information o...
