Re: Hvednakpa
This is a much more clever way to go about it that I did with Commonthroat, where I just use time adverbs for tense and serial verbs like "start", "stop" etc for aspect.
How would you talk about future events? Perhaps a verb meaning to want or to intend.

At first he hobbles along a ways behind you, but he slowly adjusts to his MacGyvered paw coverings and begins trotting along next to you as before. You make a mental note to buy a jar of Musher's Secret when you two get back home. Perhaps he'll tolerate paw wax more than those socks and mittens. Eve...

Ludd Laws
Despite bearing a Terran name, Ludd Laws are laws put in place on Hearthside, the Allied Worlds, and other yinrih governments to prevent the export of monkey fox technology to Earth. They are so named because they were the brainchild of Dr. Staples and other academics at Erickson College who were th...

Re: Hipster Wi-Fi (AKA Amateur Radio)
I just got some old TNCs (terminal node controllers) from my neighbor. They're like modems but they connect to a radio instead of a phone line. I had to google the manual and found out they were released in the mid 80s. The list of compatible computers includes the Commodore VIC 20 and IBM PCJr. Thi...

Lucy
Lucy is the human-pronounceable name of the high hearthkeeper in office at the time of the Dewfall 's arrival on Earth. She is the successor to the High Hearthkeeper who tried to once again put a stop to interstellar mission work that caused Pascal to lapse out of scandal and Iris to go in with the ...

Odor colors
So, I've made a big deal about how the yinrih rely on non visual sensory information much more than humans. I've so far avoided elaborating on this concept in Commonthroat. In my never ending quest to do literally anything besides what I should be doing (yay ADHD!) I went searching for information o...

Re: Analysis swap: Commonthroat
(Things seem to have petered out, but I'm having too much fun with this to let it die.) You think for a moment, looking down at your new furry friend lying helpless on his back, tediously holding the palms of his paws away from the sidewalk-turned-stovetop. Your eyes sparkle with realization as you ...

I'm certainly a sweat factory right about now. Gulf coast summer has arrived. Mood. As someone whose favorite temperature is 70°F, summer is not kind to me, nor is my region's climate in general. Are you fine saying where on the Gulf Coast you live? We may live near one another! And I know a fair n...

Re: Your first conlang
My first conlang, at least that I can remember, used numbers instead of sounds. It was heavily inspired by Latin, which I was taking in school at the time. The stem was expressed as a whole number, and the fractional part formed the suffix. There were cases and verb inflections, or at least there wo...

Friendship is Magic!
That's a wonderful insult ─ it looks like it's straight out of Calvin and Hobbes! It does seem too long to be a regular-use slur, though. Heh -- these are great! Thanks! I'm certainly a sweat factory right about now. Gulf coast summer has arrived. [hr] Here's a random bit of trivia that's a bit mor...

Re: Conlang documentation
I use a spreadsheet that I open using either Excel or LibreOffice Calc depending on which OS I’m currently booted into. Of particular importance is the auto filter that I use to search for words or definitions. I have a sheet with a list of single morphemes and a list of compound words. I deliberate...
