I believe that from the context, you're likely not familiar enough with the person to forgo the formal 'Pan/pani'.

Re: The English Spelling System.

I tried something like this once. The problem is English has far too many vowels, and I don't like digraphs or too many accented characters. Is there another way to represent the large inventory of vowels in the English language?

Re: Random ideas: Morphosyntax

Eldin Raigmore, please forgive my ignorance of advanced grammatical terminology, but I understood about 20% of everything you wrote before the green line. Why does 'While in prison, I wrote a letter to my friend' could work, though it still leaves a degree of ambiguity, have any ambiguity at all? It...

Re: Random ideas: Morphosyntax

What distinctions does your system have that syntactically-bound systems can't do? How about verbs where the subject and object are in two different locations? I wrote a letter to a friend in prison most likely means that the friend is in prison, but how would you refer to yourself as the one in pr...

Re: Random ideas: Morphosyntax

First of all I have to question why such syntactic freedom is even desirable. It's not no much the syntactic freedom I'm after, but the ability to express distinctions in meaning that English can't, or isn't as inclined to do. Secondly, you could have a procedural system that turns numbers into str...

Precisely. My main problem is how to conveniently implement such a system morphologically and phonetically.

Re: Random ideas: Morphosyntax

I'm not an active conlanger, and this idea is rather vague and hazy even in my mind. I've been toying with the idea of 'mapping out' sentences graphically, similarly to how Ilaksh does, but simply to show two different but related morphological categories; modifier-dependency (whether a modifier ser...

As with abstract nouns, how would verbs, adjectives and adverbs be handled? And what about complex nouns, such as parts of human anatomy, such as the brain, the nervous system, the digestive system, etc? What about a house, a bicycle, a rollercoaster, a chessboard, a keyboard, a micro-processor, a M...
