Re: What did you accomplish today?

I got stuck yesterday but managed to get preliminary forms of the Proximative and Translative for Pazmat down. Some examples to whet your appetite. Like the Ablocative and Privative, these are relatively new cases and thus are the same across all three declensions. vadrāyaru śrēvyī adventurer-DEF.SG...

Re: Yay or Nay?

Welp okay then.

Still, turning tr dr to ṭṭ ḍḍ will be a mark of Western dialects.

Re: Yay or Nay?

Should I finally given in and give Pazmat phonemic retroflex stops? It already has /ʂ ʐ/ and stops even occur in the affricates /ʈʂ ɖʐ/. As of now turning /tr dr/ into /ʈ ɖ/ is a mark of Western dialects and country bumpkins. If I do, make them phonemic, then they will not occur initially. *tr *dr w...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Possibly~! I also want to add one or two new cases and make some VERY minor alterations to suffixes. It's a tricky thing picking a new case though. The new case shouldn't encroach on the old ones, but also shouldn't be weirdly specific. For instance, Pazmat doesn't really have detailed locative case...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I'm getting a hankering for working on Pazmat again. Two things I want to do now mainly: -Work on creating a true system for creating denominative verbs from nouns and adjectives. I had some old ideas but I want to flesh them out, and use more interesting things than just arbitrary markers--at the v...

I still don't get those. Ejectives were super easy though, took me like five minutes to get them down. Not sure how you pronounce them when whispering though.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

After so long I think I have actually something nice for the Odd Internals of Sunbyaku. Using the o-stems: * sakoyarī > sakōrī "to (willingly) make noise, rejoice" * sakoyata > sakotta "you make noise" * sakoyeturo > sakoretsuro "you do not make noise" * sakoyura > sakō...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Internals are Sunbyaku's godan verbs, basically: kas a su : "she carries" kas e zuro : "she doesn't carry" kas u ra : "carrying" (equivalent to Japanese's -te form) kas o ra! : "carry! kash i kosu : "perhaps she is carrying" Externals are ichidan verbs, t...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Is this tri-distinction of verbs plausible for a language? -Statives: verbs which depict states of being, and what this language uses for adjectives -Aspectuals: The bulk of verbs, these verbs depict actions which have tense and aspect --"run", "think", "walk", "fl...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I'm sorry I've been gone for so long. After being awa for a few weeks, I really want to return to work on Sunbyaku. I have already sketched out some new grammar and sometime in the coming week I will FINALLY lay out all the verb classes. Sunbyaku has way, way more verb subclasses than Japanese and t...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Is it plausible to consider the negative to be a sort of irrealis mood, leading to a situation where the same irrealis marker is used for both things like Potential, Subjunctive, Jussive, etc. and the negative (obviously with another marker for reinforcement)? After all, the negative is the "ul...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I did that somewhat in the end. The the odd internals with -a just have hiatus: kāta "you are coming", ka e tsuro * "you are not coming", but the ones with stems in -o have the /o/ become /aw/, which is from PIE influence: huvōnara "someone encircles", huv awe naro &quo...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

After several days of lazing around, I'm back to working on Sunbyaku's reboot. I've got fresh ideas and I'm excited to try them out. You all must be getting tired of hearing about this language but seeing nothing but scraps and commentary by me. Don't worry. I'm getting there, somewhat. I've got coo...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I've got a question pertaining to Sunbyaku. It has a Japanese/PIE-esque thematical vowel system, where verb roots (well, a subset of them, called "Internals") are suffixed with vowels to determine meaning. However, in cases where the verb's root historically ended with /j/, this disappeare...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Thanks for the suggestions. Sumelic, our suggestion about debuccalizing a phoneme into /h/ actually works pretty well; in Sunbyaku, non-initial /*h/ disappeared unless it was next to a diphthong/long vowel or after an /n/, in which case it became /w/. I think I will have [fu] come from geminate /*h/...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Over the past hour I have made a rather substantial modification to Sunbyaku's verbal morphology. I had realized that I had been floundering about with no goal in mind or focus, which was why I was constantly getting stuck. And I really do like what I have done. I'll be light on details since I want...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Is it attested in natlangs to have "marginal" phonemes, which are only phonemic in some places while being allophones in others? To explain: I have done this in Sunbyaku, in order to enforce the Japanese-ness while also allowing me to have more phonemes. For instance, unlike Japanese, Sunb...

Compose key programs

(Originally posted to the ZBB, but you know I like to post things on here and there) Today I started using my father's laptop instead of my own since mine was pretty much falling to pieces. I've been setting up more and stuff on it and I intend to use it for a decently wide variety of things, though...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I am bored and thinking of playing a little game: open up Gleb, take the first phonology it gives me, and then creating a proto-lang with it and deriving daughters (probably three) from said proto-lang. The goal is not to create a super-fleshed out language but instead get enough grammar to do simpl...
