Re: Is conlanging sexually transmitted...
Any child of mine will be at least tri-lingual if her mother has anything to say about the matter, so what's one more? Still, languages are learned, not inherited genetically, so I don't think it's useful to consider them sexually transmitted as it might lead one to seriously misunderstand the phras...

Re: Eggs or not
One thing to consider, perhaps, (and exceptions abound) is that laying eggs will generally allow a parent to spend less time growing a child in their body, which might have advantages for species that need mobility. Species that give birth to live young that can't yet see, run etc. will need to spen...

Re: Greek for Cherubim?
Entirely possible, but I couldn't find a solid answer on that, so I defaulted to the more conservative pronunciation. I even saw suggestions of /xeruːv/.Shemtov wrote:Wouldn't it have been /xeruːb/ in the time that the LXX was translated?

Re: Greek for Cherubim?
I'm reasonably certain it's just Χεροὺβ /kʰeruːb/ in the Septuagint, unless I'm very much mistaken, in which case there's been no palatalisation here.

Re: In the Wake of Vultures.
Let me quote a message I sent someone else a while back: So, a game with a psychological horror element about an iron age tribeswoman who goes on a roaring rampage of revenge against piratical invaders that brutally murdered people she cared about, in which she hears disembodied voices, including a ...

Re: Magic and Gods on Yantas
Did you ever play Black and White? One of my favourite games, and I'm getting kind of a Black and White vibe from this because some of the mechanics of belief and power were similar. The game allowed you to poach followers from other gods by performing miracles (good or evil at your preference, as t...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
Totally gutted the phonology of my Proto-lang in an effort to make it somewhat prettier. Frankly though, I'm at a loss for where to go with it; puts me in the inverse position from where I normally sit, in that I now have a reasonably well-functioning grammar, but no lexemes. And now I have the firs...

I'm actually OK with the vocalist. It's just that the lyrics are... well, they're pish, if I'm to be blunt.opipik wrote:Australian Aboriginal metal.
Yes, exactly that.
The solos were pleasantly surprising though; I expected something tamer.

Re: Metal Thread
Arch Enemy, I'm not sure what they perform live. A couple of videos from Wacken last year has them singing Yesterday Is Dead And Gone which is from 2011. Then again, most bands don't play stuff from ages ago unless it's like a fan favourite. I saw Lamb of God in 2009 when their album Wrath came out...

Re: What is your concept of a perfect language?
My perfect language allows any idea or thought, even texts thousands of pages long in other languages, to be expressed with a single phoneme. It's easy to pronounce and so intuitive that anyone anywhere speaking any language can become as fluent as a native speaker in five seconds. It's also so pre...

Re: What are your conlang name's change origin's?
Currently, I have Khedol [ˈkʰɛ. n dɔl] and Ǵurás [xɤ̀.ɾás], both descended from Khedas [kʰɛ.dɐ́s], deriving from khed , tongue, and the proper masculine Nominative suffix, -as . I'm not sold on Khedol's phonology yet, nor have I really touched diachronic morphology, so they'll probably change. Haven...

Re: Conlang word easter eggs?
I decided to throw a fairly literal "easter egg" into Proto-Skawlas, /ʔis.tʰa.rak/ [ʔes'tʰrak] < qestrag > (plural: [ʔəs.tʰə'rak] < qëstȧrag >), meaning "stone fixed at the entrance to a burial chamber", taken directly "Easter egg". In descendant languages it could go ...

I think in more universe than Rodenterra's! The M.I. -- or rather the store-front that contains the M.I. -- exists in The World as well. Once in Auntimoany, just take a turn down Ropetwisters Mew and you'll find a place called Poupina Macoui Tourannias (I guess something like McTurney's Pub, in Eng...

I've only really begun to read these now, but your conworld seems very developed indeed.
I get a nice Tolkein vibe from the writing style in some sections, that kind of 'erudite scholar relating an epic' thing he had going on in his books.
