The Buzmowy

Post by Pe King »

The Buzmowy are a bee like species with a high IQ. The species evolved after “great flames” ravaged the planet for months. The bees first nearly died off after the fires died down and the great rains came and shaped the land.

Flowering plants flourished in the ashes and gave a rise to the bee populations. With this rise, organization remained a priority and specialized bees were bred into the picture. These specialized bees gained more control over the hives then the queens. They soon were overwhelmed with information and needed to expand their information capabilities. With control over the queens, intelligence was bred into the bee populations.

Meanwhile with high carbon levels the plants grew larger and larger. But the price for size was soon made apparent. Plants become less nutritious in high carbon situations. The bees were unable to pull more nutrition out of the plants so bees with higher harvesting rates were also bred. These would soon become an entirely different species similar to cows but with the ability to carry large amounts of nectar like the honey pot ant. Then when oxygen levels rose with the recovery of oceanic algae, plankton, and continental forests, and more nutritious nectar all of the bees grew larger.

The larger, smarter, bees with high populations were once more taxed with information. The Bees, now Buzmowy, had human level intelligence. They were able to find if anything was related to intelligence and found what we call silicon. With higher silicon there was more intelligent in the species. After a large amount of time had passed they were able to develop a memory system that uses a similar idea as holographic memory. This system allowed them to communicate using radio waves. In the future they would also communicate with human technology.

The Buzmowy never really die. Their holographic memory crystal is removed and sent to the hive at which they lived. There the crystal of the deceased bee is put into a special hole fit for that bee were it can continue to live in the equivalent of heaven. The only things they have to do is earn their keep with the hive when they are living, and talk to the living when they summon you at a viewing port. If a capital crime is committed the bee’s crystal is shattered spelling absolute death for that bee.

I. Questions of Place
(a) Describe the geography of where your society calls home.
The society is global. Most of the globe has a climate similar to Northern California.

(b) Describe the climate your society deals with. How severe are their seasons?
Summers are moderate planet wide but the long nights do get cold and the days often reach 90°F. Winters are warm with a snow layer often 2 inches to 2 feet depending an how far you are from the ocean.

(c) What kinds of natural disasters has this society gotten used to?
Biannually air levels drop just enough for the creatures living in an area around the equator to drop what they are doing and fall into hibernation.

(d) What are the most commonly-grown foods?
The Buzmowy don’t grow food they harvest the nectar from flowers that the Buzmowy then turn into honey.

(e) What are the most commonly-eaten meats?
They sometimes on weak of the four full moons eat wasp hives.

(f) What foods are considered exotic or expensive?
Wasp hives.

(g) What forms of alcohol are common? Rare?
Fermented honey is common. Fermented pomegranate honey is especially rare often reserved for the queen of a hive.

(h) Is there usually enough food and water for the population?
Always.

(i) What is this place's most abundant resource?
Silicon, copper gold, arsenic and iron.

(j) What is its most valuable resource?
Silicon, it is a vital component of the Buzmowy’s neural function.

(k) What resource is it most lacking?
Silver.

(l) How do people travel from one place to another?
They usually fly everywhere but when large loads are involved a Bozzoo is used. A Bozzoo is a non-sentient bee about the size of an SUV.

(m) Are the borders secure? In what way?
Yes. The idea being everyone has what they need so why kill needlessly. War only occurs when a hive has lost its queen and no replacement is available.

(n) How many people live here?
About 5 million. 6 billion if you include the memory crystals.

(o) Where in this place to they congregate?
The queen and king (a mindless drone) populate a hive that continues in and endless cycle.

(p) What part of this place do they avoid? Why?
N/A

(q) What are the most common domesticated animals here? And what are they domesticated for?
The most common domestic animal is a Bozzoo. They are able to hold large amounts of water honey and for the festivals honey wine.

(r) What are the most common wild animals?
Birds and small mammals.

(s) Which animals are likely to be pets? Which ones won't be?
Birds because the Buzmowy think of it as irony that they control a bird when they used to be eaten by them. Any mammal is not a considered a pet because they are dirty.

More is to come. :-D

With simple breeding. The Bozzoo have lost the queen feature. A female Bozzoo dies and the eggs inside of her hatch and then eat her. A slight bit of wasp is thought to be bred in there.

Ooooooooh, they took queens and kings with a large stomach capacity and brought in strength and got the larger hungrier breed. Soon enough you have a new specie. The Bozzoo just grew in size along side the Buzmowy.

So they don't have issues with their own kind being bred?

Are mindless drones common?
Are they born mindless, or is a worker be somehow converted?

There seems to be a wide variety of bee-class structures. Ranging from mindless enslavement to self-aware workers to crystals?

Also, I know you're from Alaska, but a warm winter to me does not include snow. :O

Do you have a bee hive at home?

So they don't have issues with their own kind being bred?
No. They actually encourage it. The Buzmowy think of it in a way that to them it is bettering the gene poo. This simply advances practical characteristics that would other wise be weak and low level.
Are mindless drones common?

Well there are about 6728 drones and queens at any one time. The drones and queens are born this way. The queen has to make a conscious effort to make a worker, a drone, a queen, and an Ogmanyou (higher intellect.)
There seems to be a wide variety of bee-class structures. Ranging from mindless enslavement to self-aware workers to crystals?
All of the Buzmowy have crystals. It all ranges in size of the crystal. An Ogmanyou might a full 6 cubic feet of crystal, but a drone has barely a corn kernel.
Also, I know you're from Alaska, but a warm winter to me does not include snow. :O
Even LA gets snow I'm talking about Kansas warm. You get about two inches there compared to the 5 feet here. Plus most of the Buzmowy go into hibernation. This way they save food reserves and limbs.
Do you have a bee hive at home?
No. They don't do well.

(b) How far back do its people believe it goes?
At least 30,000 years.

(c) What is the worst disaster they believe they've faced?
A snow storm that laid down 10 feet in snow. It was practically a winter hurricane.

(d) What was the best thing that ever happened to them?
The development of holographic memory.

(e) What in their past makes them feel ashamed?
The fact that they ate the last daffodil.

(f) What in their past makes them proud?
That they have the whole planet rigged with communication for 5000 years.

(g) What are they afraid of happening again?
The Great Flames.

(h) What are they hoping will happen? Do they think it likely?
They hope the Grand Creators will once again be allowed back and repopulate. Also they hope the Grand Creators will take them to the stars. By grand creators I mean humans. They hope dearly for it.

That one day the Grand Creators WILL come.

(j) How has this society changed? Do its current members realize this?
They are learning how to not biologically induce technology and recreate it artificially.

(k) What are the most popular stories about the past?
They mostly pertain to disobedient bees who got killed for not working or a bee taking out a thief.

(l) Who in the past is the greatest hero? The worst villain?
Bzz Dn is the greatest hero because it (yes It) unified the planet with the ability of radio signaling. Zck kl is the worst villain because It caused an intercontinental war by killing a queen who had no replacement inducing that queen's subjects to attack in an effort to find a new queen.

(m) Do people think the present better or worse than the past?
Better.

(n) Do people believe the future will be better or worse than the present or past?
Better if the Grand creators come, horrible and dismal if they don’t.

III. Questions of Sex and Family

Nonexistent.

(k) What, if anything, is considered a good marriage gift?
A keg of pomegranate wine.

(l) What secret vice is believed to be widely practiced?
Destruction of the holographic memory crystal.

(m) What secret vice actually is practiced?
Stealing food and kidnapping.

(v) Does this society connect the ideas of marriage with love?
Yes. Mostly Buzmowy with feminine personality.

(w) What does this society mean by the word "virgin" and how important it it?
For adults only.

A sex alternative does exist for lower class bees. It has to be consensual on both sides for it to work. This society has something similar to the human version of masculine and feminine characters. The two of different gender personalities but heads and force all the energy they can into the others crystal via radio waves and this causes pleasurable vibrations. Soon both fall asleep from exhaustion.

First of all, this assumes you know what the end goal of all endeavors ought to be. What qualifies traits as "superior?" Why?

This is also ignoring that capital increases productivity at a far faster rate than evolution, no matter how sophisticated the methods of selection. You'd have to selectively breed for a long time to get people who can run as fast as a bullet train.

Well, faster flight, higher intelligence, high strength, thicker body armor are all good examples. Also yes they do know what the end could bee. The high intelligence allows them to simulate how they should go about breeding. They also have breeders who have a much faster life cycle who aren't sentient. Then with some breeding of a normal Buzmowy they bring that breed into sentience and life span it takes about 10 years for a new breed to be useful to society. Even then it takes about 50 years for that breed to get to its full potential. Just working with capital the organization was failing and anarchy was on the horizon within two generations the population was back to a manageable size. Note this was before a global information system was set up. They simply stayed with a system that worked.

But that presumes that stuff will be favorable instead of merely excessive and wasteful and/or incompatible with the other traits.

Is there a flow chart? I'm seeing some ad hocness looking stuff here. Just how much "high intelligence" are we talking? How deep does this rabbit hole go?

Storage capacity? I'm no neuroscientist but the storage capacity of the human brain seems way higher than that, although you can't really directly compare memories and computer-based storage. They work in fundamentally different ways.

A somewhat better metric would be computational power. The average human brain clocks in at around 2 teraflops. How much can a Buzmowy do? And this metric too is flawed, as what makes the difference is performance. Better algorithms can provide faster results on slower hardware. In what ways do the Buzmowy algorithms compare to the human ones?

Actually they store about the same. http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=525801 The difference is that it is all computer memory. Humans have emotional memory. Mind you the amount I gave is the average the truly high amounts are about 864,000 terabytes for the high officials in the Ogmanyou. Any Buzmowy can easily switch crystals but it is the normal brain under the crystal that interprets the crystal. It is the normal brain that does the work and by switching crystal that brain takes an hour to reconfigure. Though this practice is so rare and painful it is saved for the trip to the crystal hall were the brain it is plugged into a blank brain that takes a few minutes to configure.
