The Man and the Mouse
The Man and the Mouse
Here is a short little story that I use as a sample text for my conlangs:
There was a man and a mouse. The man said to the mouse:
"Highly revered mouse, listen to my words."
The mouse looked at the man.
"Do you want to by me some coffee?", the man asked. "I am running out of it".
The mouse thought for a while.
"I will", he answered. "With one condition".
"What is that?" the man asked.
"That you give me your soul in exchange".
The man thought about it. He looked at the empty coffee jar.
"Ok, buy me some coffee, and take my soul."
"Deal."
Later that day, the man felt he wanted some coffee.
He went to the kitchen cupboard.
"Ah, coffee. It must have been the mouse who bought it."
The man prepared a cup.
"Ah, this tastes good".
After he had finished half of the cup, he felt an unpleasant feeling. A very unpleasant feeling. He looked in the half-empty cup of coffee. He saw an image in the cup. An image of a face. The face of a... of a mouse.
At that moment, he realised what he had done.
