What language is this? It is general practice to name the natlang/conlang you're posting a translation for.Konungr wrote:Spoiler:

Re: I love you
Well it's my conlang. Considering this is a conlang forum, I figured it was kinda obvious. I just don't have a name for it.Frislander wrote:What language is this? It is general practice to name the natlang/conlang you're posting a translation for.Konungr wrote:Spoiler:

Re: I love you
Not really, because people post natlang translations in this section all the time, and you have chosen to use the distinctive Armenian script for your conlang, so anyone who wasn't familiar with Armenian (such as myself) could have been confused into thinking it was an Armenian translation.Konungr wrote:Well it's my conlang. Re: I love you
A lot of people post natlang translations, actually! Or they post in a variety of conlangs rather than just one. So it's not as straightforward as it might initially appear.

/dæˈniræs rɛɪz/
[dɛˈnirɛs rɛɪz] - phonetic /æ/ often becomes [ɛ] when unstressed in casual speech; pronouncing it this way would be the equivalent of either (1) saying "love you" or (2) saying "I love you" after someone made a cutting remark

Re: I love you
I might end up having to change the noun for love in the proto-language, lol... though now that I think about it, there are a lot of easier and less drastic solutions, like making the more common expression an idiomatic "give love" rather than a word "lovegive."Iyionaku wrote:I was just about to comment on that, good that you clarified it beforehandmarvelous wrote:

Re: I love you
itota itiko (my only active conlang currently)
NM and VM - noun marker and verb marker;
ADJECTIF - adjectification particle; it makes the previous sentence (starting with a verb or two verbs connected by a conjunction) into an adjective;
about the character I mentioned: this conlang isn't connected to a conworld, it's connected to a fanfiction, though only some elements of the canon setting are used and the characters are all original.
Shintæmild (old conlang, has very englishy grammar, but sounds nice)
PAUC - paucal grammatical number, 2-11 things;
AFF - affirmative prefix, is the opposite of the negation prefix;
when a grammatical element modifies the spelling of a previous one, I write the final version in the original text, and the non-modified forms of both in the glossed text;
quote marks here do not represent something, they're actual quote marks, because I couldn't figure out what to do with them.
la at tea (a personal conlang created specifically for explaining emotions/feelings)
CONF# - confidence; 0 = not at all, 1 = partially confident, 2 = completely sure;
the explanation for the color mood things is here;
all these phrases in the conscript are here.

Elmena argai.
/ɛl'mɛna‿ar'gaːi/
El-men-a ar-gai

I (really) love you.
Eldemman argin.
/ɛl'dɛmːan ar'gin/
El-demm-an ar-gin
1SG-feel.good-PRS 2SG.LOC
I fell good with / around you.
el- is the prefix for "I" fused to the verb in the present tense, i.e. mena = "love", demman = "feel good" or "fit well".
ar- is the prefix for "you" fused to the case-marker, that originates from the word go = "who".
argin literally means "next to you", so one could also use the temporal argun, which could translate to "every time I am with you".
The second example is more selfish, thus rather platonic

1 Kópeda is a noun that means sexual/romatic love.
2 There will probably be more second person pronouns for different registers.
