English
The Fox and the Scorpion
A scorpion was walking along the bank of a river, wondering how to get to the other side. Suddenly, he saw a fox. He asked the fox to take him on his back across the river. The fox said, "No. If I do that, you'll sting me, and I'll drown." The scorpion assured him, "If I do that, we'll both drown." The fox thought about it and finally agreed. So the scorpion climbed up on his back, and the fox began to swim. But halfway across the river, the scorpion stung him. As poison filled his veins, the fox turned to the scorpion and said, "Why did you do that? Now you'll drown, too." "I couldn't help it," said the scorpion, "because it is in my nature."

It's really cool to see Japonégueule in an extended text.
Re: The Fox and the Scorpion
Thanks. I was interested in seeing how it would look myself. Yesterday, I found it rather ; today, I'm snuggling up to a state of . Handwriting it is still a bitch, though, I'll clue you. Almost invariably, after I write a kanji, I continue with one or two kana before I stop myself, bellow an oath, and go back and write in the quasi-Frenchified romanization. I guess practice with pastiche will make perfect.

My attempt in Swahili:
Nge alikuwa akitembea kandokando ya mto akiwazia namna ya kuvuka mto.
Ghafla alimwona mbweha.
Alimuuliza mbweha amchukue mgongoni wakivuka mto.
Mbweha alisema hivi: "Hapana. Nikifanya vile, utanichoma na nitakufa maji."
Nge alimhakikisha: "Nikifanya vile, sote wawili tutakufa maji."
Mbweha aliwazia hatimaye akakubali.
Hivyo nge alipanda mgongo wake, mbweha akaanza kuogelea.
Lakini katikati ya mto, nge alimchoma.
Sumu ikijaza mishipa yake, mbweha aligeuka kumwelekea nge akisema: "Mbona ulifanya hivi? Sasa wewe pia utakufa maji!"
"Sikuweza kuepuka," nge alisema. "Uhitaji ulinishinda."
If anyone's interested in a gloss or pronunciation, I'll do my best.

Re: The Fox and the Scorpion
Italian singer Max Pezzali wrote a song based on this tale. The tale itself is told in the song, so here it is, copy-pasted from the lyrics. The only change in this is that the fox (which would be called volpe) is replaced by a frog (rana).
Italiano

I left out the vowel lengths since they're not distinctive anyways. This dialect (concerning the pronunciation of [z] vs. and [e o] vs. [ε ɔ]) is what the Italian Accademia della Crusca defines as the "standard" dialect, something similar to RP or GA for Italian.
A (more or less) literal translation:
The scoprion had to cross the river, thus, being incapable of swimming, he asked the frog for help: "Please, let me get on your back and take me to the opposite shore".
The frog replied: "I should be crazy! That way, as soon as we're in the water, you'll sting me and kill me!"
"Why would I do that?" the scorpion began "If I sting you, you'll die and I'll drown!"
The frog thought about it for a while, then, convinced that the objection of the scorpion was indeed sensible, it let the scorpion jump on her back, and they jumped into the water together.
Halfway through, the frog felt an intense pain coming from her back, and she realized she had been stung by the scorpion. As both were about to die, the frog asked the insane guest the reason of such a foolish action.
"Because I'm a scorpion" it replied "It's my nature".
