Does <ái> descend from *ai?
Partially.
To clarify, the Proto-Germanic word did have *ai, but the default reflex, so to speak, of *ai in this language is <ai> /ɛːɪ̯/, not <ái> /ɔːɪ̯/, so there's something else going on.
Getting back to this, was this affected by the rounded of a now lost consonant or vowel? If so, my first guess is *w-?

<ái> /ɔːɪ̯/ is just the reflex of an older *āi. Nothing conditioned the rounding. A lost sound is responsible for the lengthening of Proto-Germanic *ai, though.

Clearly it means "of or like the law-nozzle", or "law-nozzle-ishly", from PRmc aiwaduljas or aiwadulis . "Of the eternity spout" might be another translation.

Was there an intervening consonant that has disappeared that triggered the lengthening? (aCi > a:i)

Ah....does it come from a declined form of *aigin? Maybe genitive or plural?
