Is it a descendant of Biblical Gothic 𐍅𐌰𐌹𐌻𐌰𐌼𐌴𐍂𐌾𐌰𐌽 wailamērjan? If so, has the meaning changed from "to evangelize, to preach"?

Oh, cool. Great word, by the way!

I have a big assignment due tonight, so I'll try to have a new word ready on Wednesday or Thursday. Sorry for the delay.

So, I gotta ask even though I'm sure it's wrong...does this have any relation to *aþalaz?

Haha, I can't tell you how many times I've thought that exact thing.

Partially.
To clarify, the Proto-Germanic word did have *ai, but the default reflex, so to speak, of *ai in this language is <ai> /ɛːɪ̯/, not <ái> /ɔːɪ̯/, so there's something else going on.

The acute accent does represent historically long vowels, but there was no *ī in the Proto-Germanic word.
