No hay nada mal que por bien no venga

Post by Lambuzhao »

I was watching this music video:
NSTYPLY - Kurashi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyvukozgZl0

And this proverb leapt to mind:

:esp:
No hay nada mal que por bien no venga
NEG EXIST nothing bad REL PRP well NEG come<SBJV>3SG
Lit. There's nothing bad that doesn't have something good come {of it}

This is a great, great proverb.
For some reason, I like it more than the English equivalent "every cloud has a silver lining".

Here's a couple versions in :ant: Papiamentu

no tin nada mal kí pa bon no bini
no tin nada mal kí pa bon no sigui

I'm not 100% sure :ant: does 2ble or 3ple negatives, but I don't se why not.
Correct me, though, if someone knows.

I'd like to see if your :con: can do an as -literal-as-possible translation.
If your :con: has a different but equivalent expression, by all means, include it as well!

:con: Yélian

literal:

Vut ciet civatpirit cunúm cikaret ciytfairat.
[vŭt ˈi.ə̆t ˌivɐˈpirɪ̆t ʊˈnuːm kiˈkarə̆t ˈa̯iːtˌaɪ̯rɐt]
3SG.INDEF not_have-3SG nothing-bad from_where NEG-follow-3SG something-good

Although this is a nice alliteration (not in speaking, where most initial <c> are silent in this case, but in writing), it's not how a Yélian would say it. It'd be more like that:

A'parcaskunats curet, a'mendrufreidats curet.
[aˈpaɾkɐsˈkʊnɐt͡s ˈkuɪ̯ɛt, aˈmɛndruːˌrɛɪ̯dɐt͡s ˈkʊɪ̯ɛt]
sun-burn-ADVZ come-3SG, shadow-cool-ADVZ come-3SG
Comes the burning sun, comes the cooling shadow.
Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.

It's an actual Polish proverb:

:pol: Nie ma tego złego, co by na dobre nie wyszło.
