There's a hole in the world tonight

Post by nzk13 »

Lyrics from an Eagles' song:

:usa:
There's a hole in the world tonight,
There's a cloud of fear and sorrow,
There's a hole in the world tonight,
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow.

I'm really a beginner in Latin, so if I made any mistakes, please point them out. By the way, not sure if I should have used the future imperative or not. Should I have?

Hey serena, could you give us a romanization?! I'm learning Korean, but I'm still a beginner, so it's a little difficult for me to see where the morpheme boarders are... [:)]

There's a hole in the world tonight,

There's a hole in the world tonight,

“Tälays” is the adverb form of the word “tälas” ‘world’, which is derived from the word “tlaza” everything.
“Säput” ‘night’ is derived from “sput” ‘darkness’.
“Kluos” is the adverb form of the word “klus” ‘place’ and means ‘here’ or ‘there’.
“Bïhena” ‘cloud’ is a derivation of the word “bhena” ’goat’.
“traim” can mean either ‘tomorrow’ or ‘yesterday’ depending on the tense of the verb.

*Black thing was the only thing I could come up with to translate cloud that had the right feeling.

*Ni is kind of "air" but generally only in compounds, such as nizo "air-locomote", meaning "wind". It can also mean 'quality', basically anything that can't be directly seen, and placed before another content word as here, it means something like "-ness". Unambiguous "air" is nini.

In the second line of Paarterye, it looks like you pressed the underdot (guessing it's a vowel) twice, so there's one with a dotted ring instead of a letter.

In Paatherye orthography, this is right (although I doubt it occurs in Hindi or other languages written with Devanagari). It's actually ड़ /ra/, combined with the nuqta (called nūdha in Elfish) to the syllable /ran/.

Anyway, great to see that you read each other's posts that thoroughly!

Really? Because I see "ra" and then I see a little circle of dots with the little dot underneath. The circle of dots doesn't match anything in style and is thinner than all the other lines in the font ... It's clearly just a placeholder in the font to show where another character should be and it sticks out like a sort thumb to me.
