Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Was it masculine?
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
I believe that that would be the way it's conjugated, yes.
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Er...after checking a similar word, it looks like it probably could/would have been conjugated as a second declension neuter as a noun.
EDIT: Actually, I can't find it in the Latin Dictionary as a noun at all. It probably could have been a noun, given its part of speech, but it's listed as an adjective (which is a half truth). So, i don't know exactly what it would have been as a noun. But definitely second declension, probably neuter?

Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Why do you say "could/would"? Was this word not actually attested in Classical Latin?
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
See above. The word is attested in classical Latin, just not as a noun, apparently.GrandPiano wrote: ↑15 Nov 2018 23:12 Why do you say "could/would"? Was this word not actually attested in Classical Latin?

Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
Does it mean "oath"?
Re: Guess the Word in Romlangs
That's not the primary meaning, but I'll take it because it is one meaning.
In the phrase eser del júredu it does mean oath, it literally means "to be of the oath" which we might translate as "to be under oath". Generally, it shifted from "that which has been sworn" to "he who has sworn". So, the most common use as a noun simply means "juror" but it can be used to describe anyone who has taken an oath of some sort (witnesses, judges, priests, monks, basically everyone in a feudal system, etc.). As an adjective, it means "sworn" or "avowed" or "under oath" depending on the context. For instance tesitmennu júredu is "sworn testimony".
