List of interesting language features

Post by mira »

This has probably come up a lot in the past, but I'm trying to find a list like this that covers a fairly wide base but doesn't use any particularly advanced linguistics terminology as I'm really not very experienced in it. Things such as case and evidentiality but going into lots of other stuff as I want to cover a lot more grammar in my next conlang.

Thanks for any help [:D]

Have you tried WALS? It covers lots of areas and the chapters do a very good job of explaining the features they describe, even for beginners.

This is perfect. I hadn't found this before so this is going to be extremely useful in the future. Thanks [:D]

Something I never thought about posting. Piitish has a shift in meaning where "interpret" has come to mean "smell".

Tyþa in old norse
Tyda "Interpret" in modern Swedish
Tev "Smell" in Piitish

"Interpret" in Piitish is a variant of "toid"
