In this case I would simply shorten the conjunction and let it become a clitic... for example... "sa=Fugmaka ufų" or "Fugmaka ufų=lu", one syllable less

Heocg is heavily influenced by a language that does have definite articles, Azenti. I think I might sketch out a heavily Azenti-influenced variety of Heocg with definite articles from demonstratives (and maybe an indefinite from mi- "one"), with case marking of nouns atrophying while being shifted onto the articles. Though, given that demonstratives in Heocg come after the noun, they'd end up being Nordic-style suffixed articles. At that point, though, it would basically be a different language.
