Vayardyio conscript

Post by Yagia1 »

My conlang Vayardyio is written in a script called the Cinthic alphabet. Although this exists for quite a long time, I never succeeded in making a font to be able to type it on the pc. Thanks to "Fontstruct" I am finally satisfied.

We proudly present...
a PDF with the alphabeth chart.

(Change the link of your first post with the good one.)

Original script, yet you've shown us only the separate letters. I wonder what it looks like together.

Then I have no idea what's going on. Hmm. Try copying the public link rather than the link you get when you click on the file. That might be it.

This is a "public" link.

And this is a "direct" link:
https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/Public/B ... w=1ad1118c

Click on the little arrow to the right of the file and choose "copy public link". That should do the trick.

It is indeed.

Well, I'm not good with scripts... but I have to say I like the aesthetics of this one. As for functionality you'll have to wait until someone else comments [;)].

Your chart looks nice, but as to the scripts functionality, I would need to see a sample.

OK, since I got the hang of it: a sample text
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/51637910/A%20txt%20vay%2003.pdf

this is a fragment from a storie I started some time ago.
You see how the script performs. It is kinda bold, but clearly readable imo. Some superficial resemblance to Hebrew or perhaps Devangari is accidental. The letters originate from another script which I designed by means of an ink pen. That is far more beautiful but FontStruct does the job very well for me. It's nice to be able to type your own script on your own pc.

Roman text underneath is the latinization.
The bottom text is in Dutch, for those of you who aren't able to read it: please be patient for a while. All my source texts are in Dutch...

Heh, in the chart it looks like a cross between Hebrew and phags-pa, but seeing it written out it comes across as very South East Asian instead- it'd fit right in with Thai, Lao, and Khmer. I suspect it's mostly due to the width:height ratio of the characters and the little loop formed by the serif on your <o>.

I'd ditch the little dots under the arch above your ligatures, though. They're not quite big enough to be visible at normal magnification, so they don't add anything to the letter-forms and end up looking like bits of dirt on your screen.

Also, you forgot to include the freestanding forms of <f> and <l> on your chart.

you're right. They don't look well, I consider deleting them altogether.

copy that. I'll upload a new chart soon.

Thanks for commenting, anacharis!

So, is your script always digital? How else can it be written? I can see several of your characters that might be difficult to write, or would change appearance when handwritten.

That is correct. FontStructor limited the esthetics of it, and indeed I had to redesign a few characters to some extent in order to fit in the program's matrix. When hand-written (I conceived it that way, years ago) the script is more rounded, letters join together, etc. I'll make a scan and try saving it as a jpg. You can see for yourself.
