they are? I thought they were just putting a word and its meaning down, and the next person modifies the word to fit with their phonotactics.

I don't see any confusion. Lexicon building: You post a meaning, and the next poster coins a word. Reverse: You post a word and the next person posts a meaning. Sculpting: You post a sound and a meaning or word class, and the next person takes a chisel to it.
